During 2001, the Institute gained strength by only two members despite the
influx of sixteen new and renewed memberships. The problem was that we lost
fourteen through resignations for a variety of reasons and through the death
of five members; the latter were:
- Maj WB (Bill)Cheadle, CD, who had joined RUSI VI in 1986
- Capt TP (Ted) Ethier, CD, who had joined in 1985
- Cdr WG (Bill) Kinsman, DSC, who had joined in 1989
- Maj GD (Bruce)Salmon, CD, who had joined in 1990
- LCol JT (John) Williams, CD, who had joined in 1993
So far, in 2002, the Institute has gained six new and renewed memberships,
one of whom is a former President, Cdr G. Dixon, CD. We regret that, in the
meantime, we have lost three (one resignation and two deaths). The latter
were:
- Capt EE (Ernest) Teagle, who had joined RUSI VI in 1983
- Capt PMJ (Patricia) Marshall, who had joined in 1981
We sincerely regret all of the losses experienced and
we have shared our deep sympathy with the families of those who will no
longer be able to rejoin. We shall nevertheless remember all and be grateful
for the time that they shared with us. Now it is time to remind all who were
members in 2001 that membership renewals for 2002 are past due. We sincerely
hope that we shall lose none through simple oversight to forward that annual
cheque; if doing it annually is a burden we would be pleased to accept
advance payments of which we now have several; in fact, one regular member is
now paid up through 2004. As always, the acknowledgement letter of renewals
includes a spare membership form which we encourage you to use in sponsorship
of those whom you feel should be associated with the objectives of The Royal
United Services Institute of Vancouver Island.
