It is with deep regret that we mark the passing of the following members of RUSI of VI

Honorary Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) R. A. (Alan) McLean, CD, MD

A native of Trail, BC and a longtime resident of Victoria, HLCol (Ret) Alan McLean passed away on 4 Sep, 2006. He enjoyed a multifaceted career as a physician, both military and civilian. While serving as a major, he was made Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of 11th Field Ambulance (Militia) in Victoria.

A longtime member of RUSI of VI, he served as president from 2000 through 2002.

Alan was a keen scout, cadet and customs officer before joining the RCMP. After two interesting years in the force, he entered the University of British Columbia graduating as a medical doctor in 1965.

The military was always a big part of Alan.s life. He spent 13 years as a physician with the Regular Force. He served initially with the Royal Canadian Regiment in London, Ont. and in Lahr, Germany in the 1980s.

His civilian practice included Victoria, several summers at the Vernon Army Cadet Camp and Salmon Arm. The last three years of his career were spent as a physician at the Esquimalt Treatment Centre. His medical career spanned over 40 years.

In the past 12 years, his continuing attachment to the RCMP led him to involvement in the RCMP Veteran.s Association, becoming president of the local chapter.

He was deeply devoted to his family and adored his six grandchildren.

Following the funeral service at St. Paul.s Anglican Church, Esquimalt, internment was at God.s Acre-the Veterans..Cemetery near CFB Esquimalt.
