On July 28 last, Rear-Admiral Tyrone Pile took command of Maritime Forces Pacific and Joint Task Force Pacific – a job that effectively gives him control over the navy’s ships, aircraft and sailors in the Pacific. RAdm Pile has spent 33 years in the navy including service in Haiti, the former Yugoslavia and the Arabian Gulf. He was most recently commander of Military Personnel at Defence headquarters in Ottawa. He pledged to continue easing the Navy into the Canada Command structure, the unified chain of command from regional to federal, thus bringing military resources from across Canada to bear on a crisis or threat. He holds a masters degree in history from the University of Victoria.
