RUSI VI Defence & National Security Commentators

10 May, 2002

The Royal United Services Institute of Vancouver Island (RUSI VI) is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit organization representing serving and retired officers from the Canadian and Allied Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, as well as distinguished community representatives and associate members.

The purpose of the Institute is to support the enhancement of effective national security and defence policies by the Canadian government and allied governments, as well as maintenance of capable armed forces with adequate strength, training and technology for the tasks assigned. Members also foster a link between the public and our security forces so that there is a mutual understanding of the support which each requires within fiscal or other constraints.

In addition, the Institute supports the development of Canadian youth within the Cadet organizations and educational institutions of Vancouver Island through awards for the military activities, history and strategic studies undertaken.

At monthly luncheon meetings for members and their guests, speakers of prominence and experience are invited to present their views on subjects ranging from military operations and technology to world affairs. The RUSI VI quarterly newsletters and our web site keep members informed of Institute activities and contain articles which present a variety of perspectives on current Canadian and international defence and security issues.

RUSI VI is one of twenty-eight autonomous Institutes of the Federation of Military and United Service Institutes of Canada (FMUSIC). That organization develops and presents major defence policy briefs for submission to Parliament and to the public; and, FMUSIC effects liaison between National Defence Headquarters and the member Institutes.

The following members of RUSI VI have agreed to offer their services as commentators on defence and security issues affecting Canadians and allied citizens. These individuals would not be spokespersons for the Institute or for any governmental organization, such as one of the Military or Police Services, but simply as well informed and experienced members. Their short biographies indicate the relevance of the experience available for any given topic.

The following RUSI VI members may be available given ample notice; for assistance, media and community representatives are welcome to contact: Major K.D. Munro, RUSI VI Communications Director, at his home in Victoria either by phone to: (250) 382-3491 or by e-mail to: usiviccda@yahoo.ca
