Colonel Crosman is no stranger to us at RUSI where he spoke to us about the future security environment, which his back ground has given him much ability to speak on. He is now in his second year in NORAD and will give us an update on activities in the increasingly busy NORAD area of responsibility.

David Zimmerman is Professor of Military History at the University of Victoria. Dr. Zimmerman was edu-cated at the University of Toronto and the University of New Brunswick, and has been a member of the fac-ulty of UVIC since 1988. His books include: The Great Naval Battle of Ottawa, Top Secret Exchange: The Tizard Mission and the Scientific War; and Britain`s Shield: Radar and the Defeat of the Luftwaffe. He has published over twenty scholarly articles and book chapters. He is an expert on the history of anti-submarine warfare, radar, the Royal Canadian Navy, science and technology in war, and the rescue of academic refu-gees from Germany in the 1930s.

In 2005, Dr. Zimmerman inaugurated the Veterans Oral History Project in partnership with RUSI. Since then students and faculty have undertaken over 200 interviews with Canadian veterans. These interviews have been made part of the Reginald Roy Oral History Collection at the Macpherson Library, UVIC. The program has also organized two academic conferences on veterans’ oral history.

The Pacific Tattoo

The inaugural performances of the Pacific Tattoo will take place July 14 & 15, 2012 in Victoria, BC. This musical extravaganza will feature bands, dancers and music from around the world. The Tattoo has evolved from a simple military ceremony in the 17th century to a dynamic performance concept with hugely successful events in cities around the world from Edinburgh, to Sydney, Australia.
